FERNANDINA BEACH, FLA. – Nov. 12, 2021 – Townies Pizzeria in Fernandina Beach gave dozens of Nassau County homeschoolers a fresh farm excursion today.

Students enjoyed a tour of Townies’ new garden, including farm equipment, water pump, and pizza-making tutorials, hayrides, and an opportunity to see and smell fresh pineapples, basil, onions, and garlic as it grows in the garden.

Townies’ owner Matt Klabacka and crew produced the “pizza, plants, and plows” event to help students learn about gardening and the importance of fresh food and eating healthy. Townies served lunch to each student and parent and each student received kale seeds to take home and grow.

“Kids today don’t have the opportunity to put their hands in the soil,” Klabacka said. “We’ve created a fresh farm excursion with hands-on learning experiences to expose students to planting, the importance of eating organic, all while making the experience fun and exciting for them.”

Klabacka hopes other schools and organizations will take advantage of a fresh farm excursion field trip.
