St. Peter’s Episcopal recently completed its “Raise The Roof” fund-raising effort to a total of $200,000.00. From the start of the campaign in Summer 2021, a tithe of $20,000.00 had been set aside for contributions to community support groups which include Barnabas, Habitat for Humanity, America’s Youth and Hope House/The Interfaith Dinner Network.

Father Joe Woodfin, the Rector of St. Peter’s said, “Our stated mission is to Know, Love, Worship and Serve Jesus Christ and his people. St. Peter’s has a long heritage of presence and community outreach here in Fernandina. As we look around us, we are committed to the community’s needs. Especially those who need to be provided with nutrition, shelter, and crisis support.”

St. Peter’s Vestry Senior Warden, Connie McDaniels added, “The Parishioners at St. Peter’s have a long history of supporting our community and of giving generously to support our mission. As we spoke with several organizations that serve our community, it was clear that there continue to be many unmet needs among our neighbors. The ongoing effects of the Pandemic, now exacerbated by inflation, continue to have a significant impact on the most vulnerable. We are grateful we are able to support these essential organizations, both with our donations as well as volunteer support from our parishioners.”

“This is a big moment in the life of St. Peter’s”, stated Rachel Davis, Director of Christian Formation at the church. “Despite the pandemic, we are seeing an exciting level of energy from multigenerational parish families and our newcomers. It’s clear that there is a desire among all our folks to serve the community, whether if they have been around for a little or a long time. We are proud of our church but are also committed to partnering even more intentionally with the ecumenical community and local service organizations in Fernandina”.

Reverend Woodfin added, “We are so grateful for our parishioners and generous donors who have made this special work possible. And invite anyone to join us at St. Peter’s Episcopal as we continue the work God has given us to do. Jesus taught us to be inclusive, so whoever you are, you are welcome at St. Peter’s”.

In short the $20,000.00 tithe went to these organizations:

  • Nassau’s Habitat for Humanity – to provide affordable housing.
  • America’s Youth – after school programs & vacation activities provided at no cost.
  • Barnabas – offering health services, crisis assistance and food programs.
  • Hope House & Interfaith Dinner Network – as proper nutrition is a basic human right.
