National Art Honor Society at Fernandina Beach High School paints memorial bricks at the Veterans Memorial at Central Park.

Members of the National Art Honor Society at Fernandina Beach High School recently volunteered their Saturday morning to refurbish the legacy bricks at the Veterans Memorial at Central Park. They are students of Joy Keith, Visual Arts Educator at the school, and they agreed to repaint the faded lettering on the bricks as a community service project.

The Veterans Council of Nassau County maintains the memorial and monitors its condition very closely. Talks with Mrs. Keith began back in February to see if any of her students would be willing to donate a few hours of community service to brighten up the memorial. The happy result is a much more legible homage to our veterans.

The Veterans Memorial at Central Park at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and 11th Street provides an opportunity to honor veterans by placing a brick inscribed with the veteran’s name and service information.

To obtain a brick to honor someone, pick up an order form in the box on the flag pole at the park. Contact Carol at 904-261-9193 for more information about Veterans Memorial Park and how to order a brick.
