After rain showers caused some early-afternoon nervousness concerning the Friday evening schedule, the beginning of the 50th Annual Shrimp Festival commenced as planned. The Fernandina Observer was given special access to the pirate invasion, accompanying the Fernandina Pirate Club aboard the “Island Girl” as the traditional battle was planned and executed before a large crowd around the marina docks downtown.

While rain and strong winds are in the forecast for Saturday, we hope to see everyone out and about downtown!

Editor’s Note: This is the second time Michael has shared his talents with the Fernandina Observer. Michael was taken on board the shrimp boat Island Girl by its crew and members of the Pirates Club to capture photos of the Pirate Invasion from a different vantage point. We thank all those who arranged Michael’s participation.
