After two days of waiting, the sun appeared just after noon at the 50th Annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. Large crowds turned out for the last day of the festival, allowing some vendors to sell out of their wares despite their nervousness about the previous wet weather. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Festival, Publix Supermarkets produced a shrimp boat-styled cake and over 1,000 cupcakes for the crowd to enjoy. The last hours of the event were as close to a perfect celebration of Fernandina's shrimping heritage as might have been hoped!
