In its third annual partnership with Nassau County Schools, Rayonier Advanced Materials (NYSE: RYAM) hosted 80 local students at its Fernandina Beach plant on Friday, October 4th, to celebrate Manufacturing Day and inspire the next generation of manufacturing leaders.

Students hear from Rayonier Advanced Materials’ employees about job opportunities.

Students from Fernandina Beach Middle and Yulee Middle learned all about modern manufacturing technology and careers during presentations on RYAM’s operations, a “Look Around the Plant” tour as well as interactive “Learning Labs” with RYAM experts and engineers.

“It’s always a blast to share our process with the next generation and expose them to the exciting world of modern manufacturing,” said Mark Homans, general manager at Rayonier Advanced Materials’ Fernandina Beach plant. “We’re proud of our partnership with Nassau County Schools and grateful for the chance to share the many high-paying and fulfilling manufacturing career opportunities that Nassau County has available.”

The “Learning Labs” covered a variety of topics, from cellulose end-products—like tires, filters and LCD screens—to pulping operations. Teachers will receive an online toolkit complete with lesson plans and activities to further expand their students’ knowledge of manufacturing and its many career opportunities. The toolkit can be found at www.manufacturingtoolkit.com.

“It’s so great to see local students get excited about modern manufacturing and learn how everyday products are being made in their own backyard,” said Nassau County Schoolboard Superintendent, Dr. Kathy Burns. “We’re thankful for RYAM’s partnership and we hope they continue to inspire local students to pursue the skills needed to succeed in today’s manufacturing industry.”

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event created by the Founding Partner Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International in 2012. To mark the event, Nassau County and the state of Florida made proclamations declaring October as Manufacturing Month. For more information about Manufacturing Day visit https://www.mfgday.com.
