The Fernandina Beach High School Band warms up the crowd gathered at Egans Creek Park.

On May 18, the Sunrise Rotary Club, 8 Flags PlayScapes, and representatives from the City of Fernandina Beach gathered at Egans Creek Park to celebrate the opening of a new children’s playground in Egans Creek Park.

Aaron Morgan, president of 8 Flags Playscapes, thanked the Sunrise Rotary, for their generous contribution to help fund the addition of a climbing dome at  Egans Creek Park. The City of Fernandina Beach paid for a portion of the $100,000 cost using recreational impact fees, but it was the additional support from Sunshine Rotary, and the Northeast Regional Rotary, that made the climbing dome possible. The base of the dome is an AstroTurf type surf which reduces the chance of injury and allows adults and children to kick off their shoes and enjoy.
