At the October 14, 2019 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners approved an Interlocal Agreement between Nassau County, Baker County, Clay County, St. Johns County, and the City of Jacksonville joining a new multi-jurisdictional government entity to be known as the “Northeast Florida Fire Watch Council.

The Fire Watch Council will work together to combat the veteran suicide epidemic by establishing partnerships with local, state and federal agencies who work with veterans, non-profit organizations, and private donors to create programs aimed at supporting veterans in northeast Florida. The City of Jacksonville will serve as the home of the Fire Watch Program and will coordinate with surrounding counties to organize existing resources and provide one-on-one assistance to local veterans in need of crisis intervention. The program is expected to kick-off in early 2020.
