NASSAU COUNTY’S MRC PROVIDES AFTER-HOURS COVID-19 VACCINATIONS
Nassau County Emergency Management has activated its Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) unit to make getting vaccinated against CoViD-19 more convenient for residents who work or attend classes during the day.
MRC personnel administered 130 Pfizer-BioNTech CoViD-19 vaccinations during the evening hours this week and will continue to offer the free shots on Thursday evenings, 4:00–8:00 pm, at the 86026 Pages Dairy Rd location in Yulee as long as the need exists.
While no vaccine can prevent a virus from entering the body, CoViD-19 vaccines have proven highly effective in priming the immune system to recognize and neutralize the SARS-CoV-2 virus, keeping vaccinated individuals from becoming severely ill or dying.
With local healthcare systems at capacity, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Florida Department of Health continue to recommend all residents take action to avoid exposure and continue responsible infection control measures (i.e. stay home when sick, cover coughs and sneezes, wash hands well and often, keep hands away from the face, avoid crowded spaces, clean/disinfect touched surfaces, avoid close contact with non-household members) regardless of vaccination status.
Immunocompromised individuals in need of a third mRNA CoViD vaccination and anyone age 12 years and over needing a first or second dose are welcome at the Thursday evening vaccination events; appointments can be made through the www.OneNassau.com website.
CoViD-19 vaccine is also available through local pharmacies and Department of Health clinics during their business hours.
