Nassau County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announces the appointment of Eric Schmidt. Eric joins the Board of Directors in working to achieve the mission of enhancing the business environment and quality of life in Nassau County.

Eric is the Community Relations and Training Lead for WestRock’s Fernandina Beach Mill. He previously spent 25 years working at Georgia Pacific in the Corporate Environmental Engineering Group in Atlanta, eventually rising to Vice President of Environmental Engineering. In 2008, Eric rejoined the Corporate Environmental Affairs Group at his former company, which eventually became WestRock. He led a group of engineers and scientists to provide innovative solutions to environmental challenges at over 100 manufacturing locations, including the Fernandina Beach Mill.

In 2018, Eric and his wife moved back to Amelia Island and rejoined the WestRock Fernandina Beach Mill to help coordinate WestRock’s support for various Non-Profit Organizations and the Nassau County community, while also managing the mills’ training program.

Eric earned his Civil/Environmental Engineering degree from Purdue University. He keeps close ties with his alma mater and received the Purdue University Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award in 2013.

Nassau County Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based association of Nassau County businesses, professional leaders and individuals working together to provide leadership which will aggressively promote and defend responsible economic growth, employment opportunities, government and excellence in education and quality of life.
