The Fernandina Beach Fire Department responded to a house fire at 8:39 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30. The fire began in the upper floor living room of the two story brick duplex located at the corner of North Fletcher and 3rd Streets. Occupants who rent the upper floor were not home at the time of the fire. The lower floor is an unoccupied unit.
Fire Chief Jason Higginbotham said that the cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. Fire officials are focusing on overheated electrical wiring.
