Residents of West Nassau County will soon be able to combine two meaningful activities near home: finding hidden treasures and shopping for a cause.

Micah’s Place, Nassau County’s only domestic violence center since 2001, has announced the launch of its second thrift store, also named “The Purple Dove Resale Center” at the Callahan Shopping Center.

The Resale Center raises money to serve survivors of domestic violence.  The Purple Dove Resale Center has been successful for Micah’s Place in its Fernandina Beach location, by selling used, high-quality goods that have all been donated. This includes designer clothing, dishware, jewelry, books, house wares, home decor and furniture.  Both stores will benefit from the generous donations of the residents of Nassau County.

“The launch of the second Purple Dove Resale Center in the heart of Callahan is a way for us to continue to engage the community and to support the needs of local families who have survived domestic violence,” said Heather Jones, CEO of Micah’s Place. Jones shared that Micah’s Place responded to 1,342 calls made to its domestic violence crisis hotline in FY 2014/2015. This year’s figure is already close to 900 calls in the first 5 months of the fiscal year alone.

“Proceeds from this new store will help us to meet the increasing demand for our services. And much like the first store, the new thrift store will offer a plethora of opportunities for local residents” Say Jones.

We will be in search of staff, volunteers, donations, and satisfied customers to spread the word about the good that Micah’s Place is able to do with the proceeds from the sale of donated merchandise.

“The Purple Dove Resale Center is a very important part of our operations. It generates income to help fund the Micah’s Place’s operations, it also brings awareness to domestic violence but it serves another important purpose for individuals who are fleeing unhealthy home situations – often with very few personal items. The Resale Center allows Micah’s Place to maintain an inventory of clothing in all sizes to provide to women and children receiving help. Additionally, when families are moving out of the emergency shelter, we are able to provide them with household items and furniture.”

Micah’s Place, a domestic violence services agency, since 2001, has been a community-based, not-for-profit agency that provides domestic violence services and support for survivors of domestic violence in Nassau County.  Micah’s Place provides a wide array of direct services, including a 24 hour Crisis Hotline, Domestic Violence Shelter, Court Advocacy, Counseling, Outreach Services and Domestic Violence Prevention Education.
