City Clerk Mary Mercer has just confirmed early this evening that the qualification period has ended and five individuals will be on the November ballot as candidates for the Fernandina Beach City Commission. In Group 4, incumbent Tim Poynter will run against challenger Ed Boner. In Group 5, John Elwell, Pat Gass, and Jim B. Higginbotham will vie for the seat left vacant by Commissioner Jeffrey Bunch.
According to Mercer, at this late date it is not permissible for potential write-in candidates to launch a campaign.
