Michael Czymbor, former city manager of Fernandina Beach, is headed to Palatka, Florida to serve as its city manager.  Czymbor issued the following statement to the Fernandina Observer: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Palatka. Although I will miss the many friends I have made while serving as city manager of Fernandina Beach, I look forward to working together with the city commission and the citizens of Palatka to build an even better community.”

Although Palatka is not an ocean front community, there are many  similarities between Palatka and Fernandina Beach.  Both are located on a river, and in rural counties.  Each are full service communities providing utility services to customers and residents.  Both have municipal golf courses, airports, and cemeteries, and pulp and paper mills as their major taxpayers.  In addition, Palatka recently adopted a riverfront master plan.

The city of Palatka, population 11,000,  is located on the St Johns River approximately 45 miles south of Jacksonville.  Czymbor begins his first day of work on July 23.
