Island Art Association (IAA) will host an Art Chat, open to the public, Tues.,Jan. 16 at their Education Building, 18 North 2nd St. Fernandina Beach. 6:30 gathering, 7 pm program

Folk Art, Visionary Art, Outsider Art — What’s in a Name? EVERYTHING

Dr. Peggy Bulger, retired Director of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, will present an informal discussion on the differences among the many genres of art that are self-taught, realizing that they are largely misunderstood. Using examples from her extensive collection, Dr. Bulger will explain how a folklorist views these genres and how they evolve over time (never in danger of “dying out”).
