Two local residents, one with Parkinson’s, have been working on a project to help change the way that local Parkinson’s patients relate to and live with their affliction. Rock Steady is a wonderful program, started in Indianapolis in 2006, based on training for boxing, that has proven to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease.

You can view this video on Rock Steady  and you will be hooked on the program! There are 85 affiliates of Rock Steady in the US and abroad.

Today we want to share the wonderful news that there are now 86 Rock Steady affiliates: Rock Steady Amelia Island will start its training sessions on April 18th at 2.00 pm and on subsequent Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Advanced Muscle Therapy, Gateway Blvd., near the Chamber of Commerce offices.

Here is the local team who have made this possible:

Larry Ogilvie, Advanced Muscle Therapy, business and trainer.
Dana Edge and Tifini McGill, trainers. Max Hord, our REAL boxer and advisor. Bryan and Carolyn Peeples at Pak’s Martial Arts, future trainers. Guy Petty, model Parkinsonian, researcher, and future trainer. Mary Anne Sharer, organizer, fundraiser and enthusiast.

Please let those with Parkinson’s Disease know about this program. The cost to join the classes will be quite small. For more information on Rock Steady, please contact Guy Petty or Mary Anne Sharer at 310-6678.

This is a big step for Parkinson’s people here in North Florida. We can’t wait to give it to Parky on the nose!!
