Hazardous waste clean-up and recycle events scheduled for April 26

City of Fernandina Beach

The City of Fernandina Beach will host a Hazardous Waste Clean-Up & Recycle Event from 8am-2pm on SATURDAY, APRIL 26th, 2014in the City Maintenance/Utility Yard at 1017 S 5th Street, Fernandina Beach.

recycleThe following items may be disposed/recycled:

  •  Glass or Plastic Bottles
  • Propane Tanks
  • Steel or Aluminum Cans
  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Tires (4 per household)
  • Electronics
  • Appliances
  • Automotive Fluids
  • Oil Filters
  • Scrap Metal
  • Paint, Paint Thinners
  • Corrosives, Hazardous Chemicals
  • Pesticides, Fertilizers
  • Fluorescent Bulbs
  • Automotive or Household Batteries
  • Household Cleaners
  • Over The Counter Medications

There will be paper shredding services on site.  Free pine mulch chips courtesy of Rayonier will be available for residential use only, while supplies last.

Residents may also dispose of household hazardous waste at the Home Depot parking lot in Yulee from 9am-2pm on the same day.  The Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection and Keep Nassau Beautiful will be on-site collecting:

  • Aerosols Antifreeze Batteries
  • Fluorescent Bulbs Corrosives Diesel
  • Gasoline Household Cleaners Electronics
  • Pesticides Medications Paint Thinners
  • Pool Chemicals Flares Propane Tanks
  • Fertilizers Used Oil & Filters Paint

Jeremiah and his staff, as well as the volunteers, continue to do a great job on this event. It continues to grow each year both in terms of the amount of material recycled as well as the types of material. And this year people can get pine mulch free – the ultimate in recycling.
