In honor and remembrance of the victims of the acts of violence in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio on August 3, 2019, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has directed that the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida. The flags shall remain at half-staff until the expiration of President Donald J. Trump’s national directive at sunset on Thursday, August 8, 2019.
Governor DeSantis said, “As our nation mourns the tragic and senseless loss of life in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, we reaffirm that these acts of violence are not representative of who we are as a nation. Florida stands committed to do all that is necessary to support law enforcement efforts for the safety and security of our residents and visitors. May we pray for those who grieve and remember always that we are a resilient nation.”
If Florida were truly committed to ” do all that is necessary to support law enforcement efforts for the safety and security of our residents and visitors,” we would be passing sane gun control measures, keeping guns out of the hands of our home grown terrorists (the young, white, men, all U.S. citizens who are the perpetrators of these mass murders). Instead, we fly flags at half mast and offer ‘thoughts and prayers,’ for this group of victims and their families — until the next terrorist attack shifts our focus to another episode of this ongoing national atrocity.
What the Hell is it going to take for the political leaders to get off there asses, and effect real change in the gun laws of our Nation. Obviously it’s not the Mass Killings of their Constituents. This Nations population to the tune of 90% want gun reform. At the Minimum, Background Checks, Licensing, Limit Size of Magazines. The killer in El Paso Tx. had a Magazine that held 200 bullets. Assault Weapons have no place on our streets. Ban them, and buy back every one. (Est. of 15 million) Look, even if the politicians don’t give a care for your Grandkids or Mine. They have to care about their own. Tell them, both republican or democrat. this is a nonpartisan issue “Enough is Enough”. Tell then to do there damn jobs. I’ve written to our Congressmen, and our Senators, Please consider doing the same.
