Forestry Career Day a success . . .

The Rayonier Forestry Career Day Team, Ed Carter, Jody Davis, Josh Steiger and Tiffany Wilson issued the following letter of thanks.

We would like to thank all the great people in the forestry community who worked together to make the first-ever Forestry Career Day a success. We welcomed more than 170 Nassau County high school juniors and seniors to the Northeast Florida Fairgrounds Sept. 26 to experience different forestry careers hands-on by flying drones, operating heavy equipment, and meeting local employers and college reps.

It would not have been possible without the support and participation of more than two dozen local businesses and organizations from the forestry industry in Nassau County, as well as 71 of our own employees!

Our goal was to educate students and the community about the many attractive career paths the industry offers as forestry-related employers look to the future workforce needs we all will have. Almost half of Florida’s total land area is forest land. A study by UF and the Florida Forestry Association shows the forestry industry employs more than 124,000 Floridians and infuses $25 billion into the state’s economy.

Career opportunities in the industry range in educational requirements, from those that provide on-the-job training to high school grads to those that require advanced college degrees. You can learn more about the event and opportunities in the industry at rayonier.com/careerday.

We can’t wait to do this again next year with all of these great organizations:
