Florida Department of Economic Opportunity issues Employment Data for July 2020

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced Florida’s labor force increased 2.3 percent over the month, an increase of 223,000 Floridians entering the workforce. Florida businesses gained 74,100 private sector jobs over the month. The unemployment rate for July 2020 was 11.3 percent.
In an effort to help Floridians review and evaluate state economic data in a user-friendly format, the Department recently launched Florida Insight, a new labor market and economic data platform. Florida Insight can assist individuals and businesses with making informed decisions about careers, investments and the economy.
Florida Insight provides users an overview of key economic indicators including statistics on current employment, unemployment, wages and labor force participation. Information can be found on statistical programs, including data visualization tools and the ability to export custom data series on the website. Florida Economic Indicators for July 2020 include:
  • Unemployment rate was 11.3 percent.
  • Labor force was up 223,000 or 2.3 percent, over the month.
  • Florida businesses gained 74,100 private-sector jobs over the month.
  • Consumer Sentiment Index is 80.5 in July 2020, 2.0 points lower than the June revised figure of 82.5.
  • Florida’s private-sector job creation over-the-year rate of decline of 6.3 percent was less than the national over-the-year decline of 8.1 percent.
  • Florida private-sector jobs were down 490,200 over the year.
