Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Former Florida House of Representatives member Marilyn Bailey Evans-Jones

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent the memorandum below to Nassau County Commission Chair Tom Ford and City of Fernandina Beach Mayor Mike Lednovich on Friday, August 13, 2021:

“On Friday, July 23, 2021, former Representative Marilyn Bailey Evans-Jones passed away. She served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1976 until 1986. She worked on legislation inspired by her family, including the Florida Clean Indoor Air Act, and issues such as child safety, restraints in automobiles and handicapped parking. She was appointed to the Constitutional Revision Commission in 1997. She went on to serve the Nassau County community in various ways, including helping to open the domestic violence center, Micah’s Place. She will be remembered as a devoted and Christ-centered public servant, family member and friend.

“To honor the memory of former Representative Marilyn Bailey Evans-Jones and her service to our state, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the Nassau County Courthouse in Fernandina Beach, Florida; the City Hall of Fernandina Beach, Florida; and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Monday, August 16, 2021.”
