Famed Cellist to Headline Amelia Chamber Festival Season

The cellist who came to international fame in 2018 when he performed at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle is coming to Amelia Island Nov. 5 at Amelia Plantation Chapel. The Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival has announced Sheku Kanneh-Mason as a pre-season beginning to its 23rd season.

This will be Kanneh-Mason’s debut at the festival. Artistic Director William Ransom says his appearance underscores the festival’s tradition of bringing the world’s finest musicians, both emerging and established, to the island.

Kanneh-Mason is a graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music, and in May 2022 he was appointed as the academy’s first Menuhin Visiting Professor of Performance Mentoring.

He was appointed the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) member in the 2020 New Year’s Honors List.

Artistic Director William Ransom and Executive Director Nina Knight have curated a season that blends classical masterpieces with jazz and bluegrass.
