Renowned Interventional Neuroradiologist to Help Advance Foundation’s Mission
The Trinity Love Hoblit Foundation is honored to announce Ajay K. Wakhloo, M.D., Ph.D., has joined its board of directors. Dr. Wakhloo is a renowned interventional neuroradiologist who has made pioneering contributions to the development of various endovascular procedures which are now established treatments.
“At our third annual gala fundraiser in April, we awarded Dr. Wakhloo the first Trinity Love Hoblit Research Award,” said Olivia Hoblit, president of the foundation. “Dr. Ricardo Hanel, director of the Baptist Neurological Institute at Baptist Health System in Jacksonville, has been involved with the foundation since its inception three years ago. He has known Dr. Wakhloo for many years and we are thrilled to welcome him to our board.”
In addition to educating the public about the signs and symptoms of aneurysm and stroke, the Trinity Love Hoblit Foundation, founded in 2016, supports and funds neurological research, training, and treatment for brain aneurysms, strokes, and other cerebrovascular conditions at Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital, Baptist Neurological Institute, Baptist Nassau and other similar regional, national and international facilities.
Dr. Wakhloo said, “The Trinity Love Hoblit Foundation is giving so many children and adults who suffer from rare diseases of the brain, both in the country and around the world, the hope and the opportunity to access the best treatments.”
Dr. Wakhloo has directed the interventional neuroradiology department at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Mass. since 2018 and is professor of radiology at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Previously, he spent 13 years as a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) where he served in numerous leadership roles, including director of Neuroimaging and Intervention and co-director of the New England Center for Stroke Research at UMMS. He built the clinical and research neurointerventional program at UMASS into one of the most recognized programs in the world. Dr. Wakhloo has published more than 500 publications, two books on stroke treatment and has served on numerous editorial boards and is a reviewer for more than 15 medical journals. He served as chief executive officer and chief medical officer for various medical device companies and holds several patents for neurovascular medical devices. Most importantly, Dr. Wakhloo has provided more than three decades of exceptional care for countless patients with stroke, cerebral aneurysms and other neurovascular disorders. He received his medical degree from the University of Mainz, Germany, where he also received a Ph.D. in endocrinology and metabolic disorders.
“Dr. Wakhloo is a true pioneer in our field and widely considered the father of brain aneurysm flow diversion, a minimally invasive treatment that saves many lives each year.
