On October 13, 2012, the Eugene Pope chapter of the US Marine Corps Veterans association unfurled and mounted the US Flag on the refurbished flagpole on the edge of the shopping center at the south east corner of 14th Street and Sadler Avenue.

It was a very moving occasion during which Bill Rogers, chaplain of the detachment,  gave the invocation and many of the older marines mixed and mingled with the crowd of onlookers. The Fernandina Beach Police department was represented, as was the Nassau County Sheriff’s department and the local Fernandina Beach Fire Department. In addition a troop of Boy Scouts from Yulee attended.

Jim Thomas, long time county resident and WWII veteran watched as U S Marines raised the flag.  Approximately 120-135 individuals were in attendance.
