Florida Health NassauAs 2015 quickly approaches, so begins a time for personal reflection and New Year’s resolutions. Since good health is essential for overall well-being and quality of life, many of us will make changes related to our health and wellness. Practicing healthy lifestyle behaviors such as good nutrition and regular physical activity are crucial to good health. If you need some direction on where to start, the Health Education Program at the Florida Department of Health in Nassau County assists with connecting worksites, community members and community groups to health and wellness opportunities. This aligns with the State Surgeon General’s Healthiest Weight initiative found at http://www.healthiestweightflorida.com/.

The following is a list of current programs and resources for health and wellness:

• Lending Library–The Community Health Education program works to improve the health and quality of life for Nassau County’s residents by training local agencies, worksites, and other community organizations to host their own health education classes and programs. Talk to your employer about utilizing our free lending library with the following classes and programs: Healthy Cooking, Healthy Lifestyle, Diabetes, Healthy Savvy Shopper, Walk With Ease, Arthritis, & Colorectal Cancer Prevention.

• “Walk With Me” Program – Walking is free and it is good for you! This is a free, community-wide (Nassau) walking program that encourages works sites, agencies, and other community members to start walking groups. Stay tuned for future “Walk With Me” events.

• Community Resource Guide – This guide now features a new section called “Free Physical Activity” that lists such opportunities. The Community Resource Guides are updated regularly and posted on the following website: http://nassau.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/wellness-programs/resource-guides/index.html
