City of Fernandina Beach
June 23, 2021

The Coast Guard Maritime Force Protection Unit (MFPU) Kings Bay will be hosting an outreach event on June 26, from 10:00am-2:00pm at the Fernandina Harbor Marina. Through this event MFPU Kings Bay will be able to promote unity, promote boating safety, and provide information about the Coast Guard as a whole – but more specifically, the submarine escort mission being conducted by MFPU Kings Bay. There will be 3 Coast Guard assets at the marina available for free touring by the public. These assets include the 33’ SPC-LE, 64’ SPC-SV, and 87’ CPB.

Tours will be led by Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary members who will be eager to answer any questions the public might have about the vessels as well as the Coast Guard’s role within the community. Come join us for a nice day on the water and an opportunity to learn more about the Coast Guard!

In addition to conducting submarine escort duties, MFPU is a deployable unit that is sent where ever they are needed on short notice. They are truly an impressive group within the Coast Guard.
