City police “Employee Spotlight” on Sergeant Jon Hepler

Fernandina Beach Police Department
February 10, 2022
This week’s employee spotlight is on Sergeant Jon Hepler. Sergeant Hepler has been with the FBPD for over 21 years and is currently assigned as a patrol supervisor on the day shift. Sergeant Hepler’s collateral duties include coordinating our new employee training program and stepping in to assist in training our current officers in Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement and firearms. Jon is well known in the community and encourages his officers to meet people as they are patrolling their assigned areas.
Getting to know Jon:
What is your dream vacation? Anyplace as long as my wife is with me. She makes the places we go special.
If you were not in law enforcement, what career would you have? I’m not sure, police work was the only thing I ever wanted to do, I could not imagine doing anything else.
What is the best part of your job? There are several great things about being a police officer in Fernandina Beach, it’s hard to pick just one. The top two are, I enjoy working with an amazing group of people, and I also get the opportunity to have a positive impact on our community.
Who is your hero? My dad. He taught me to have a strong work ethic and to not be afraid of hard work.
