Child abuse arrest

On Friday September 5th, the Fernandina Beach Police Department responded to the Baptist Hospital emergency room regarding a severely burned five month old child. It was determined that the child had received deep second degree burns on the buttocks, left shoulder and head six days prior to medical treatment.

Denzel Malik Albertie, age 19 and Shawna Noel Corbett age 26 arrested for child abuse.

A Detective from the Police Department and an investigator from the Department of Children and Family Services responded to the hospital and started an extensive investigation which continued through the weekend. On Monday, September 8th two arrests were made in the case. The child’s parents, Denzel Malik Albertie, age 19 and Shawna Noel Corbett age 26 were charged with aggravated child abuse.

The child remains hospitalized at the Wolfson Children’s Hospital Burn Unit in Jacksonville after receiving surgical procedures to treat the burns.
