‘Becoming Dr. Ruth:’ Many Laughs for People of a Certain Age

Jill Dillingham of Amelia Musical Playhouse, first gave the script of “Becoming Dr. Ruth” to Diana Herman before the COVID pandemic.
“I was hesitant, but Jill kept encouraging me,” Herman said. “It took a couple of years before I finally said yes.”
“Who hasn’t heard of Dr. Ruth or seen her?” Herman said. “Those of us at a certain age chuckle when we hear her name. At 4 foot
7 inches and 95 years old, she is still going strong! We know her from radio and TV. But, how many know her story—how she became an overnight sensation?” Herman, star of the show, has been immersed in Dr. Ruth for several months, she said, “and now I love her — truly.”
To join in on Dr. Ruth’s story and her funny, risque call-ins to WYNY get a ticket to this performance, directed by Ron Kurtz.
Performances are Jan. 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 14 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.
