There were too many activities this weekend to cover with three car auctions, a carnival and multiple other events. However, this reporter was able to attend the Saturday night Dupont Registry cocktail party in two hangars at the Fernandina Beach City Airport from 7 to 10 pm.

The Dupont Registry was celebrating its 30th anniversary as a source for high end luxury items. As Thomas L. DuPont, publisher of the registry puts it, they attend functions that unite sellers and buyers of these items. Some that were available for viewing included a luxury jet, limousine, one of a kind watches and a high end sound system in one of the hangars. The event was well attended and food, a bar and dessert items were in abundance with live entertainment as well. Mr. DuPont was very accommodating and charming as were the people working the event.

Hanging from the ceiling to pour champagne was tricky and my picture doesn’t capture it very well, but the floating, ethereal lady on stilts was fascinating.

My volunteer husband worked the parking lot at the airport and thinks there were over a thousand cars parked there, just in the morning.

thomas Group 2We decided to check out the new diner coming to Fernandina Beach at the old Applebee’s location and went to one of the Beach Diner locations in San Marco. We ate a delicious breakfast and chatted with one of the owners, Cason Adeeb. He and his father, Barry Adeeb, hope to have the new location up and running in late April with a modern clean beach look…whitewashed white walls with blue accents, beach pictures and have gutted the building to achieve that idea.

They are hoping to open part of the restaurant first, Monday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for breakfast and lunch. When they are up and running, they will try some dinners on Fridays and Saturdays with beer and wine, possible expanding to a full bar.

The Adeebs are a family of restauranteurs. Besides the Beach Diner in San Marco, Mandarin, Atlantic Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach, they have recently opened Willie Jewell’s Old School Bar-B-Q at the corner of Route 17 and A1A SR 200 in Yulee.

Our breakfast was delicious, especially my husband’s eggs benedict (you may order one), the service was excellent and we look forward to welcoming them to Fernandina Beach.
