Antun Files for Mayor Position

City Commissioner James Antun has filed to run for Fernandina Beach Mayor.

Antun was elected to the city commission in 2022.

He will face City Commissioner Darron Ayscue for the mayor’s seat in the August city elections.

“I look forward to this opportunity to serve the community that I have called home for nearly a decade. I hope to be able to serve as a leader who listens, and contribute to Fernandina Beach being a place where my daughter can be safe and proud to grow up,” Antun said.

Only incumbent city commissioners not running for re-election are eligible to seek the mayor’s position.

Current Mayor Bradley Bean will end his two-year term as mayor in December. Bean is seeking re-election as a city commissioner.

Good news for our community. Commissioner Antun has proved to be a good listener who addresses important city issues in a nonpartisan and thoughtful fashion. In contrast, Commissioner Ayscue’s platform was void of ideas on how to address these issues. His campaign relied almost solely on being “endorsed by the Republican Party.” I will certainly be supporting Commissioner Anton’s campaign to become the next City Mayor.

I have been quite disappointed with Commissioner Antun. He promised to work for fiscal responsibility and to hold city government accountable to the residents of the city, and promptly forgot those promises and joined in on the goings on in city hall.

It’s a little perplexing with this Antun fellow. I don’t really see him around town or active in meetings unless it’s to support Chip Ross’s motions. He ran as a pro-business conservative minded candidate, and then swiftly got in bed with the local activist crowd. Being a better option than Lednovich is even questionable at this point. I bet his supporters feel duped especially when they see him being lauded by the likes of Monzon.

It seems Mr. Antun is aligned with the people that believe CO2 is warming the earth – and that school kids should wear masks. Did he resist the mob and refuse the gene juice vax/ clot shot? As a general way to evaluate any candidate it would be nice to know their perspective on these issues. Considering what has happened over the last few years we all need to pay attention to who holds political office..
