“All I could do was love you. God, I loved you so”. These are some of the final words to Jason Robert Brown’s ‘The Last 5 Years’, soon to be opening at Amelia Musical Playhouse. A small cast with a huge presence, with a beautiful musical score accompanying, ‘The Last 5 Years’ won the 2002 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics, as well as multiple Drama Desk nominations for Outstanding Musical, Actor, Actress, and Orchestrations. Brown’s modern musical depicts the relationship and marriage of Jamie Wellerstein: an up-and-coming novelist pursuing his dreams at any cost, including losing the one closest to him; and Cathy Hiatt: an aspiring actress who wants nothing less than to prove her worth, to herself and her husband who is stealing her spotlight. Jamie, played by FBMS/FBHS theatre teacher Matthew Eldridge-Bratsch, brings life to his side of the relationship from it’s beginnings to the bitter end; while Cathy, played by local singer/actress Kathryn Aubrey, relives a failed marriage from the final goodbye to the first meeting.

AMP’s production of ‘The Last 5 Years’ is directed by Eythan Robertson, with Musical Direction by Jill Dillingham. The show also features a small live orchestra with Flutist Ann Merwin, Fretless bassist Jon Yoder, and on not one but TWO cellos (or, CELLI) Nathan Ealum and Matthew Zabatta.

Show dates are September 6,7,8, at 7:30 pm.
