John C. “Charlie” Hutchins has been a freelance photographer for more than 30 years and is published in periodicals like Esquire and Skin Diver Magazines, annual reports and promotional brochures. Formerly a full-time faculty member at Florida Institute of Technology, Charlie taught photography, specializing in underwater photography in the Oceanographic Technology program. He also did a turn as a creative director for an advertising agency specializing in real-estate, resort, and financial clients. Currently he resides in North Carolina working on Fine Art Prints and Photography Lessons and Adventures.

As a high school student in Fernandina Beach, Hutchins was the photographer for the Fernandina Beach News Leader and considers then publisher Ray Caldwell,  one of his early mentors.

Editor’s Note: Having been impressed with John C. “Charlie” Hutchins’ photographs since my high school days, I was pleased that Charlie was willing to share some of his work with the Fernandina Observer.  This photo has special meaning to Charlie since his family operated  the “Seaside Inn”  that opened in 1945.  Slider’s located at Sadler Road and South Fletcher under went a complete renovation of the  property in 2003.
