The Amelia Island Bird Club will hold its next field trip Saturday, October 16, at 8 a.m. at the Goffinsville ramp off Old Nassauville Road. From State Rd 200, turn onto Old Nassauville Road and drive 3 miles past Springhill Baptist Church to Goffinsville Road where you will turn left. There is a large parking area where we will meet at 8 a.m.
After birding at Goffinsville we will proceed further down Old Nassauville Road to the Holly Point Boat Ramp. In preparation for this trip you should study fall Warblers that will often look different than their breeding plumage. Also check thrushes that we might see-Hermit, Swainson’s and Gray-cheeked.
Last year we observed two white birds that were different species- Little Blue Heron and Snowy Egret. We should expect some shorebird migration as well so look over Dunlin, Short=billed Dowitchers, Yellowlegs and various Plovers. I will send out a reminder a few days before the trip.
