Cattle Ranching photo enlargedExplore and celebrate the history and culture of the nation’s oldest cattle ranching state (yes, that’s FLORIDA!). Bob Stone’s fascinating multimedia presentation is Wednesday, April 27th, from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Fernandina Beach Library. He explores the unique crafts, occupational folklore, cowboy poetry and rodeo culture of the Sunshine State, while honoring Florida’s cowboys. The presentation is free, open to the public and sponsored by the Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library (FOL) with support from the Florida Humanities Council (FHC).

An interesting subject. Of course the tricky part of the oldest state claim in that FL was granted statehood before the western territories by about 6 – 9 months. But I have been to some of the cattle ranches in the Gainesville area that have been there for many, many generations.
