What began as a small group of Amelia Park women making bracelets for fun has become Front Porch Beads, a larger band of beaders making and selling one-of-a-kind jewelry and specialty items for charity. Much of the jewelry is created on the front porches of group members. Money donated by Front Porch Beads is a combination of personal donations and jewelry sales at Story & Song. (Soon, jewelry will also be sold online at www.frontporchbeads.com.) For every $1,000 raised, the group makes a donation to a local charity. The latest recipient is Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA), currently feeding local seniors during the “boots on the ground” initiative in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Front Porch Beaders have also taught a jewelry class at NCCOA’s Fernandina Beach Life Center and use the Saitow Arts & Crafts Room for jewelry-making during the cooler months. Pictured (left to right) during the check presentation are Janice Ancrum, NCCOA President & CEO; Frances Peters, Front Porch Beads founder and leader; and Sharon Mooney-Hughes, co-leader.
