Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue.

According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.

The DEA has announced its 20th Take Back Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 24th from 10am-2pm. The public can drop off potentially dangerous prescription medications at collection sites which will adher to local COVID-19 guidelines and regulations in order to maintain the safety of all participants and law enforcement.

Currently, there are two established drop off locations for Nassau County:

Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, 77151 Citizens Circle, Yulee, FL 32097
City of Fernandina Beach Police Department, 1515 Lime Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034
