Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County

Fernandina Beach, Florida – Today the Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County in partnership with Florida Farm Share and Worldwide Terminals Fernandina held a successful drive-thru food distribution benefiting the residents of Nassau County. The groceries provided by Florida Farm Share were just in time to serve 200 families before Christmas next week. The event took place at the Sadler Square Shopping Center. Carlene McDuffie, President for the Coalition said, “Nassau County is a small rural county. Having these supplies in time for the holidays will make a major impact in small communities like ours. I’m extremely proud of the Coalition, and grateful to Florida Farm Share, Worldwide Terminals and our local officials who stepped up to volunteer with us today. The best demonstration of strong leadership, is someone who will roll up their sleeves and volunteer.”
Local officials on site included Nassau County Commissioners Jeff Gray and Klynt Farmer, as well as Ocean, Highway and Port Authority Commissioner Scott Hanna.
The Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Coalition currently operates the Day Drop-In Center at 1005 South 14th Street in Fernandina Beach. The Day-Drop-In Center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Center is the only county organization that provides a light breakfast and lunch, in addition they providing laundry facilities, a mailing address, a place to securely store documents and connect with other community services. The Coalition also provides a cold-night shelter through partnership with local hotels when temperatures approach freezing to protect people from the elements.
