By a unanimous vote of 5-0, the Board of County Commissioners agreed to have Denise May become the County Attorney once a contract is approved.

Nassau County Board of Commissioners begins special meeting on March 21, with a salute to the flag.

At last week’s meeting of the BOCC, there was a bit of confusion as to whether Ms. May would become the County Attorney or remain as the Assistant County Attorney while a search would commence for replacing Michael Mullin who announced his retirement effective March 16th.

Commission Chair Aaron Bell indicated that it was his belief all along that May would take on the position of County Attorney upon Mullin’s retirement and that is what the expectation had been all along.

County Manager Taco Pope indicated that should not take more than 30 days for a contract to be developed and approved.

Once approved, it is at that time that a full search will begin for the position of Assistant County Attorney.

Each commissioner expressed their utmost confidence in Ms. May.

Said Interim County Attorney May, “I want to express my deep honor in your voice of confidence in me.” May went on to say, “I am qualified, I am ready to take the next steps to bring this county into an efficient, transparent governance as is your strategy priority and I look forward to working with this board.”

Hired by Nassau County in August of 2021, Ms. May received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Technology from Belmont University and graduated Cum Laude from Barry University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. May served as an Assistant State Attorney in the 7th Judicial Circuit Court, and most recently, as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of St. Augustine.
