Nassau County Council on Aging’s (NCCOA’s) Caregiver Support Group meetings are now held twice each month – the second and fourth Wednesday – Jan. 12 and 26, 2022, from 3:30 – 5 p.m., at the Janice Ancrum Senior Life Center, 1901 Island Walk Way in Fernandina Beach.

In addition to our regular support group meeting, the Jan. 12 meeting will feature a brief presentation by guest speaker Jim Tippins, M.Div., BCC, CT, on moving through the stages of grief. As caregivers, many of us are grieving though our loved ones are still with us. We grieve the loss of relationships as they were before illness; loss of plans, hopes and dreams for the future; loss of past lifestyle and activities; loss of intimacy; and loss of control over many aspects of our lives. For those of us who feel “stuck,” Jim will present helpful ways to move forward. He is a former family caregiver and former chaplain at Baptist Medical Center – Nassau, as well as a practicing certified grief counselor, Board-certified chaplain and counselor with Changing Tides Amelia.

On Jan. 26, we will have our regular support group meeting with no guest speaker.

The overall goal of the Caregiver Support Group is to offer support and education for caregivers. It is not suited for loved ones to attend; however all caregivers are welcome. Monthly meetings are free. For more information, please contact Emily Kunzelmann, 904-775-5472 or [email protected].
