My decision to retire and the reasons set forth in my letter of March 14, 2021, stand as stated. I have reviewed the state attorney’s statement released today and with all due respect, I strongly disagree with those findings, but I do not want to be a distraction for the County.
The messages which are the subject of the civil suits were turned over to the requesters beginning in January 2019 and also provided to the state attorney’s office in March 2019. In addition, I drafted new procedures for maintaining and addressing personal messages on private devices. The procedures are set forth in an ordinance adopted in the fall of 2019. The ordinance placed all public record requests and maintenance under the county attorney’s office. These procedures remain in effect today. I do want to reiterate my appreciation to have represented Nassau County Florida for over 30 years.

On March 14, 2022, the Board of County Commissioners received Mr. Mullin’s intent to retire as of March 31, 2022. On March 15, 2022, Mr. Mullin indicated he will send an updated letter of retirement effective 12:01 a.m. on March 16, 2022.
Nassau County received a copy of a Closing Memorandum from the press this morning,
March 15, 2022, at 11:38 a.m., regarding the State Attorney’s Office investigation of Nassau County Attorney, Michael Mullin, related to actions in 2018 and earlier. There has not yet been correspondence directly from the State Attorney’s Office to Nassau County regarding said memo. As this new information may impact ongoing litigation involving the County, no further statement may be issued at this time.
Finally he decides to do the right thing and resign immediately, although if he hadn’t I would have hoped the BOCC would have terminated him.
Deny, Deny, Deny! How do these guys live with themselves? Maybe more repercussions would have given Mullin some humility. You’ve had your day in court, you were found guilty and we, the Nassau County community will be paying for it.
Karen, you are correct, it is we, the tax payers of this county that will be paying for this for a LONG time!! Mullin and all 5 County Commissioners during that time, leave a BIG mess for the rest of us citizens to pay for. Remember all 6 of these people’s names!!
You are right, the county will be on the hook for over $55 million because Radient is about to get away with not paying for the parks
Charlie, You say Radient will ‘get away with not paying for the parks’…….Please don’t forget that Mullins worked FOR Raydient when the Wildlight community and all that it would entail was being negotiated. His fiduciary duty is and always will be to them. Once the papers were signed, he went to work for the county (again) and lead our Commissioners down a poorly thought out scheme that they all knew was against Florida’s Sunshine laws.
I hope you are remembering the wrongful termination suit against Mullin and the county as well.
This is a HUGE mess and it looks like no one will have to pay, except the taxpayers!!
Why isn’t there a civil suit being filed against Mullin? Does his contract exempt him from any reparations? This county needs better legal representation and hopefully, the new Attorney will provide that.
I’m not saying that there were not bad decisions all around. I stated that we, the county, is going to be on the hook for the parks, and I personally believe that Radient, in the beginning, was to be responsible for them.
Mike Mullin served this community for over 30 years and and to try him in the media is grossly unfair. He didn’t have his day in court and resigned so the county wouldn’t be dragged through further litigation.
Haters are going to hate and those that know him, know the truth.
Well, you are not the first to disagree with Prosecutors on one’s own behalf. Nice that you can retire, though, while others don’t have that option. It was with very poor judgement that both you and the county officials made the decision to allow your dual roles in Nassau County. Was it worth it to any of the parties involved?
The only party that benefited was Mr. Mullin in drawing both salaries and having his pension payout increased. Hopefully the days of “Boss Hogg” are coming to a close.
