On Tuesday, January 15th, County Manager, Mike Mullin, and Board of County Commissioners Chairman, Justin Taylor, met with Senator Aaron Bean, Representative Cord Byrd, and representatives with the Florida Department of Transportation regarding various issues related to the State Road 200 construction project, specifically road conditions, timing of traffic signals, and lane closures.

The two hour event consisted of a sit down meeting in which County representatives shared common concerns expressed by the public and the affects the construction has on our residents and their daily commutes. Following the meeting, everyone participated in a ride-along where County officials were able to provide visuals related to the public’s concerns.

Overall, the meeting was successful in demonstrating the need for timed lights and elimination of daytime lane closures. FDOT representatives tentatively agreed to allow the County to operate the timing of traffic signals so they can be adjusted as needed and to move more lane closures to nighttime.

Thank you to Senator Bean, Representative Byrd, and FDOT representatives for visiting Nassau County and getting first-hand look at how the construction is affecting our residents and working with us to develop a plan to alleviate some of these concerns.
