All First round winners of COVID-19 vaccination contacted – Arranging appointments another matter

By Susan Hardee Steger
January 20, 2021

After 975 winners of the first round of random drawing received word of their impending vaccination; signing up for at least half of the respondents was filled with frustration. Calls into the call center were met with busy signals, or no signals and some individuals had difficulty with the eventbrite system. Eventually,  some individuals were able to get through to the help desk during the day.

Staff members spent the afternoon calling the random drawing winners who had not yet made appointments. Calls will continue tomorrow according to Information Officer Dave Richardson. “Those that have not [responded] are being called today and tomorrow which will continue until approximately 6:00 p.m. ”   Locations to be assigned for vaccinations will be at  the Florida Department of Health Yulee Clinic or the Yulee Sports Complex.”

Would challenge you to come up with a better plan and forward to our state and local EM/DOH. Better yet, VOLUNTEER to help man the phones. The plan is great but “it takes many hands to make light work”.

I’d volunteer to proofread the confusing emails they send.

Here’s one. What the Hell does THIS mean?

“Click “Claim My Spot” in the off-the-waitlist email, confirm your contact info to get emailed ticket, then call 548-0900 to schedule, 9-5.”

What is “the off-the-waitlist email”? Did they send me one? Guess not, but what do I know? So you look thru your email and junk mail — and inevitably calling the number (Area Code missing so users can’t dial automatically) and keep dialing…and dialing…and dialing.

I know this is complicated, but incomplete sentences, poorly written, only make the job harder.

The States & Counties are handling the actual vaccines in the arm. Biden can’t send what he doesn’t have.

Congratulations! You are a winner!…..of your life! Really? Now just maybe The Masses will wake up to the lottery of life and the new body politic. Oh, should you not “win” please do make sure you file your tax return as “we’re all in this together”. And all “The Selected” at yesterdays ceremony of democracy you can bet they all “won” a shot as they long ago were deemed “essential”. Yea right. Please stay in line you pesky seniors and stay off the beach!! Remember covid is in the waves!!!!!!!

The wording in the email has us waiting for a follow-up email that never comes and, as noted, the help line is impossible to connect with. Why the multiple layers of messages and waitlists?

Wait. Calls are being made to “winners on the waitlist”? who have NOT responded to their winning notification? What happened to personal responsibility? Instructions said if you didn’t respond within a certain timeframe another waitlisted would be offered the vaccine. There are 8000 of us out here ready to jump at the offer. Please STOP babysitting people!

Well they must have received another shipment of vaccines! This article states 975 people will be getting the vaccine.

Nassau County stated a few days ago that they’d only received 850 vaccines total since the beginning. So what’s going on here?

No, they have not received another shipment. The number of vaccines has grown. Perhaps the reason for the increase is that they have found they are able to get more syringes filled per vial received.
