Friends and neighbors took advantage of Fernandina Beach’s annual recycle day at the city maintenance yard at 1017 S. 5th Street, just across the railroad tracks off lime street.
Traffic was brisk this morning as residents unloaded old paint cans, batteries, electronics and all sorts of things not eligible for weekly residential curbside recycling.
Recycle patrons have also been generous in donations for the Barnabas Food Pantry today. The Barnabas Food Drive is much more successful than last year. The Barnabas representative had already emptied his truck once by 10:00 a.m.!
The event continued until 3:00 p.m. today, Saturday, April 28.
Thanks to the City of Fernandina Beach for organizing this. What a great convenience and a great service to our community.
Congratulations to Jeremiah, his team and all the volunteer (city staff and public citizens) for putting this together. And thanks to the people that used this opportunity to safely dispose of these materials instead of trying to “sneak” them in their household garage resulting in further contamination of the landfill.
