The long awaited sidewalk to connect Ash Street to Centre Street has almost been completed.  With agreement from both the City Commission and the railroad, the City of Fernandina Beach has been pouring concrete for a walkway just east of the railroad tracks along Front Street.  Once the concrete work has been completed, a fence will be installed to further protect pedestrians from encounters with the railroad property.

Currently, pedestrians have either had to walk along the tracks or along Front Street to travel between Ash and Centre Streets, placing them in danger from trains or cars.  The new sidewalk will help provide a safer passage.
