New business & building report: June 2018

The Fernandina Observerwelcomes the following businesses newly licensed or relicensed to operate in the city of Fernandina Beach last month:

During June 2018, the city surveyed 384 permits, an increase of 17 from June 2017. The number of permits for new construction was 21, a modest rise from 18 recorded in June 2017.  Much of the new construction permitted was for the Harbor View townhouse development on the site of the former Fernandina Lumber Yard as well as duplexes at Aspire at Amelia.  Permit fees collected by the city in June were $291,889, a significant increase over the $238,352 collected in June 2017.  The following activities accounted for the most permits issued by category:  Mechanical (76), General Building Permit – Residential (59), Electrical (57), and Roofing/reroofing (55).

Building activity is up for the first six months of 2018 (2,251) over the number of permits issued for the first six months of 2017 (2,032).
