UPDATE : (From Fernandina Beach Police Dept)  In the original post we mentioned that there was no foul play in the death of this man and that we would provide updates if something changed. Nothing has changed, there was no foul play. We usually do not comment further on death situations that pose no danger to the public, but we are finding that some members of our community have more questions concerning this incident.
These are the brief details of this investigation:  All of his personal belongings were in his pockets, including cash. He had no injuries that would indicate anyone battered him or that he was injured from any source other than some minor injuries when he fell into the drainage area. The last security video of him indicates he was not in the company of anyone else. The Medical Examiner has determined health-related issues caused his death. We do not know if he died after the fall or fell because he was experiencing a medical episode.
On another social media site there is a rumor that a man was found deceased on Sadler Road after being attacked.  We are working a death investigation,  however all evidence available to us at this point indicates that the death was the result of an unfortunate situation brought about from an early morning fall into a deep, overgrown drainage area. The investigation is ongoing in partnership with the Medical Examiner’s Office and thus far nothing has been discovered to indicate foul play or a danger to the public. Updates will be provided if new evidence is discovered that changes the course of the investigation.

Update – Editor’s Note: :  Deputy Chief Jeff Tambasco provided further information to the Fernandina Observer.  On March 6, 2022, the police arrived on the scene, located on the north side of Sadler Road, at 9:07 a.m.
