Editor’s Note: Today, the Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course is closed to honor and remember Clay Daniels.

It was April 13th of this year, when I was in Fernandina Beach at the Municipal Golf Course. I noticed one of the maintenance workers working on the 7th green. I drove my golf cart over to meet this gentleman as I was inspecting the golf course. We exchanged warm greetings, spoke briefly, and he rushed off to the next green on his schedule for the day.

We crossed paths again shortly thereafter, waving to each other as we drove in different directions. At that time and, in light of our rather brief discussion, I knew that Clay was very dedicated to the golf course and towards his job. Until his passing, I never knew that he was the Assistant Superintendent. However, I did pause for a few minutes to watch him work. He was definitely an asset to his staff and to the golf course. He will be sorely missed.

In about 3 weeks, I will be at the Golf Course, and, I will go to the location of his passing and say a prayer for his Salvation. Clay, it is with a heavy heart that I promise to see you in heaven. Our brief time with each other has changed my life dramatically and restored my trust and faith that our brief encounter has had a very positive effect on my life.

Rest in peace, my new friend.

Your new friend,

Alan Prescott
