Candidate Press Release
October 1, 2021
October 1, Fernandina Beach – Genece Minshew, longtime community leader and activist has made it official – she will run to fill City Commission Seat 5 being vacated by retiring Vice Mayor Len Kreger.
“In my roles as an advocate for our city it is clear that we have a good balance of opportunities and challenges ahead of us,” says Minshew. “My early filing date signals a year of listening and learning what all of us – residents, business owners, out-of-town guests – want and need most.”
As current chair of the city’s Planning Advisory Board Minshew has a deep understanding of the city’s needs to accommodate well-planned and resourced growth, while her years as the chair of the Fernandina Beach Main Street Program’s Economic Vitality Council equip her with an uncommon level of insight into supporting businesses during continued pandemic recovery.
Minshew narrowly lost a run-off election in the last Commission election in 2020, but that hasn’t diminished her attention to the city’s business: she continues to attend almost every Commission meeting in person or via the internet.
