The Fernandina Beach City Commission (FBCC), at their January 5, 2021 Regular Meeting, reached consensus to allow two January 2021 special events: the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and the Annual Redfish Tournament, and, at the recommendation of the City Manager, the Fernandina Beach Main Street Sip and Shop, providing the event sponsors adhere to CDC guidance for COVID-19 safety measures.

Because a formal Resolution was not presented at that meeting, the FBCC considered and passed unanimously Resolution 2021-06 at their January 19, 2021 Regular Meetingformalizes and memorializes the action taken at the January 5, 2021, meeting.

City Manager Dale Martin announced that the Redfish Tournament has been canceled at the request of the Tournament sponsors.

The FBCC also considered and passed unanimously at the same January 19 Regular Meeting Resolution 2021-07, co-sponsoring other Special Events throughout the year. The Special Events Committee and Fernandina Beach Main Street have each selected five events to sponsor, based on the following criteria: community impact, longevity, and feedback from City staff.

City-related fees will be waived for the co-sponsored events selected, with the exception of Public Safety Officers.

The co-sponsored events nominated by the Special Events Committee and approved by the FBCC: Sounds on Centre, the Nassau Sports Association Fishing Rodeo, Petanque Amelia Island Open, Hometown Fourth of July, and Shrimp Drop.

The co-sponsored events nominated by the Fernandina Beach Main Street Program and approved by the FBCC: Dickens on Centre, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Road Tour, the 8 Flags Car Show, and the Black Friday Pajama Party.
